Laboratory technician in water microbiology

Call to hire a laboratory technician (FPII) for the research project "Water Microbiology" whose main objective focuses on the development of methodologies for the study of microorganisms present in water samples through culture techniques, microscopy and molecular analysis.

The selected candidate will develop the following tasks:

  • Development of microbiological methodologies and analyses in water and soil.
  • Physico-chemical analysis of environmental samples
  • Preparation of culture media for specific micro-organisms in selective media.
  • Development of selective culture techniques for specific bacterial strains indicative of water quality.
  • Optimisation of molecular analysis methods based on the use of RT-PCR and quantitative PCR to quantify gene expression.
  • Handling of UV-Visible spectrophotometry analysis techniques and microbial strain preservation techniques through freeze-drying or cryopreservation. Preparation of results reports.
  • Drafting of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Management of orders and organisation of microbiological analysis laboratory material.
  • Participation in dissemination conferences.
Requirements
  • Advanced Technician in Chemistry and Environmental Health or Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory (or equivalents), Professional Training II (FPII). EQF Level 5 (MECES 1)
  • Proven experience in molecular tools for quantitative and qualitative identification of microorganisms (bacteria and virus) in environmental samples from aquatic ecosystems.
  • Experience in selective cultivation of strains of environmental interest (E.coli, Clostridium, Campylobacter).

Conditions

Durration: Indefinite (until the end of the project planned for December 2025) according to article 23 bis of Law 14/2011, of 1 June, on Science, Technology and Innovation.

Employment contract full-time: 37.5 hours/week

Annual gross salary: 20.182 €

Aproximate incorporation date: January, 2023.
