PhD researcher in aquatic ecotoxicology

IMDEA Water is a non-profit research Institute, promoted by the Regional Government of Madrid, to carry out research in water technologies. This Institute is part of the IMDEA network, the institutional framework that combines support from both the public and private sectors and harmonizes research with market demand, strengthening the presence of the private sector in science.

It complies with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers

The call is to recruit a PhD researcher in the ECOREST project (Ecotoxicological tools for the assessment of resilience to climate change and chemical stress) (Project Code: RTI2018-097158-A-C32 MICIU/AEI/FEDER,UE). This project is funding by Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the Spanish State Research Agency, call «Retos investigación 2018».

The selected candidate will investigate the combined effects of contaminants and climate change on coastal aquatic ecosystems of the Mediterranean region. The researcher will adapt available fate and ecological models for chemical risk assessment to Mediterranean wetlands, and will develop in-situ monitoring tools to assess chemical stress at different levels of biological organization. These tools will include: (i) biomarkers to assess chemical contamination in fish, (ii) in-situ tools to monitor effects of the contamination on invertebrates, and (iii) micro-mesocosms to assess effects on populations and communities.

  • Master Degree (EQF level 7 or MECES 3) related to Biology, Environmental Sciences or similar in the application moment.
  • Experience on research on aquatic ecology and/or ecotoxicology.
  • Field monitoring experience and experience on the scientific literature related to multiple stressors in Mediterranean wetland ecosystems.
  • Proficiency level of written and spoken English.
